Another campus. Another lockdown. Another moment of fear that no student, no teacher, no parent should ever have to endure.

The recent shooting at Florida State University was not an isolated tragedy—it’s part of a deadly, ongoing crisis. And while students were texting “I love you” from locked classrooms, lawmakers just blocks away had debated whether to make guns more accessible to young adults and allow these young adults to carry firearms on campus!

This is not what leadership looks like.

Let us be clear:

Guns do not belong in classrooms, dorms, or lecture halls.

We are calling on Florida’s legislators to immediately act and prioritize lives over politics. We demand:

✅ Universal background checks
✅ A ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines
✅ Safe storage laws to keep guns away from children
✅ Mental health support in schools

Gun violence is not just a policy issue—it’s a moral failure. And our students, teachers, and families deserve more.

✍️Sign this petition and send a clear message:
We will not accept inaction. We will not accept fear as a new normal.

We stand with the FSU community—and every family impacted by this ongoing crisis. The time for change is now.

To: Florida State Legislators

As a concerned citizen, I am writing to urge you to take immediate and meaningful action to address the escalating gun violence crisis affecting our schools and campuses.

The recent active shooter incident at Florida State University is yet another heartbreaking example of the devastating toll gun violence takes on students, educators, and families across Florida. It is unacceptable that while FSU students were sheltering in fear, legislation was being considered just blocks away to lower the age for purchasing firearms and to expand campus carry policies.

This must stop.

I urge you to:

  • Oppose any legislation that allows or expands campus carry in Florida colleges and universities
  • Oppose any legislation that would lower the age of gun purchases from 21 to 18.
  • Enact universal background checks for ALL firearm purchases, not just those purchased in gun stores.
  • Reinstate a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines
  • Pass safe storage laws to protect children and prevent unintentional shootings
  • Invest in mental health support systems in schools—not more guns on campus

You were elected to serve and protect the people of Florida—including our students. Common-sense gun reform is not a radical idea—it’s a public safety imperative and one that the constituents of Florida demand.

I urge you to act now to prevent the next tragedy before it happens.
