Moms for Liberty is having their summit next week on August 29, and we want to call on Gov. Ron DeSantis and Education Commissioner Manny Diaz Jr. to remember ALL parents have rights as to the educational upbrining of their children, not just these vocal extremists.

These "Joyful Warriors" and "concerned citizens" have been targeting books by LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC authors and demanding they be removed from libraries to ensure that you cannot select those books for your own children. On the heels of New College removing hundreds of books and throwing them in the dumpster, we need to send a clear message that this is unacceptable and is detrimental to our children's futures.

Parents have the right to decide what their own children read, but that authority should not extend to restricting access for all students. No single parent or government body should be able to block access to protected speech in school libraries.

The U.S. Supreme Court has affirmed that every child has the right to access a diverse range of books, as protected by the First Amendment. As censorship becomes more prevalent in our schools, it is our duty to defend this fundamental freedom for every student in our community.

Please sign this petition to urge our Governor and the Florida Department of Education to stand against censorship.
