Miami, Florida – As more parents become informed about the true agenda behind Moms for Liberty, a wave of disavowal is sweeping across Florida. The organization, which claims to champion parental rights and freedoms, is facing increasing backlash as its actions and alliances reveal a much narrower and exclusionary vision of "freedom."
Across the state, there has been a significant pushback against Moms for Liberty's influence, particularly as their attempts to remove culturally significant books from school libraries come to light. For instance, in Brevard County, three books by Hispanic authors were recently challenged and removed. This district has a Hispanic population of about 10%, yet they are removing books from public school libraries that are representative of the complexities of First Generation Hispanic life. These actions are part of a broader pattern where the voices and stories of minority communities are being systematically silenced.
However, it’s not just about book removals. The August 20th elections across Florida saw numerous victories for candidates who openly opposed Moms for Liberty’s agenda, highlighting how the group's views are increasingly out of step with everyday parents. These parents are voicing their desire for a comprehensive and inclusive education for their children, free from the undue influence of those who do not represent the diverse communities that public schools serve.
As more details emerge about Moms for Liberty's affiliations with initiatives like Project 2025, the public's rejection of their agenda becomes even more pronounced. The realization is growing that the "freedoms" Moms for Liberty promotes are selective, serving a narrow agenda that fails to resonate with the broad spectrum of families and values across the state.
"Parents are increasingly rejecting the notion that a small group should dictate what is appropriate for all children," said Lissette Fernandez, Co-Founder of Moms for Libros. "Education is about preparing our kids for a diverse world, and that means including all voices, not just those that align with a specific ideology.”
