When you turn on the tap in Miami-Dade County, you probably don’t think much about what’s in the water—unless something goes wrong. But right now, something is going wrong. A proposal to remove fluoride from our public water supply has gained traction, and it's up to our community to stop it.
Fluoride has been safely added to public water for over 75 years and is one of the most effective public health measures ever taken to reduce tooth decay. It’s supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Dental Association, and numerous health organizations around the world.
Yet, despite overwhelming scientific consensus, some local officials are pushing to eliminate this essential protection. Fortunately, Mayor Daniella Levine Cava vetoed this decision—citing health risks and expert advice. Now, the County Commission is considering whether to override that veto.
We can’t let that happen.
Fluoride is especially critical for children and low-income families who may not have consistent access to dental care. Removing it now would increase dental disease, drive up costs, and deepen health disparities.

Subject: Help Us Keep Miami-Dade’s Water Safe and Fluoridated
Dear Commissioner [Last Name],
As a resident and someone who truly cares about the health of our Miami-Dade community, I’m writing to urge you: please do not override Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s veto to remove fluoride from our water.
This isn’t just about a policy. It’s about protecting our families, especially our children and elderly residents, from preventable dental problems. Removing fluoride puts public health at risk—needlessly.
Health experts from the CDC, the American Dental Association, and countless local physicians agree that fluoride in our drinking water is one of the safest and most cost-effective ways to prevent tooth decay. Undoing this decades-long public health success would not only widen health inequities but also create long-term costs for families already struggling.
We trust our leaders to stand with science, not against it.
Please uphold the Mayor’s veto. Keep fluoride in our water. And keep our community healthy, safe, and strong.
Warmly,
