Miami, Florida – Moms for Libros stands in heartbreak and solidarity with the students, parents, and educators affected by the active shooter incident today at Florida State University.

This is every parent’s worst fear—getting the call that there’s an active shooter on their child’s campus. Today, that fear became reality for countless families at FSU. And while students huddled behind locked doors, just down the street, Florida legislators had contemplated a bill to lower the age for buying firearms.

This is the crisis we’re living in: one where book bans get priority over background checks. Where educators are silenced—but assault weapons are not. Where politics chooses pandering over protection.

We will not stay silent.

We are mothers, caregivers, and community members, and we demand action—not thoughts.
We demand legislation that protects our kids’ right to live, learn, and grow in peace.
We demand courage from lawmakers who have failed Florida’s children again and again.

To the FSU community—we grieve with you. We rage with you. And we will continue fighting beside you until our schools are safe for all children.

Miami, Florida – Moms for Libros expresa su profundo dolor y solidaridad con los estudiantes, padres y educadores afectados por el tiroteo ocurrido hoy en la Universidad Estatal de la Florida (FSU).

Este es el peor temor de cualquier madre o padre: recibir la llamada de que hay un tirador activo en el campus donde estudia su hijo. Hoy, ese miedo se convirtió en realidad para innumerables familias en FSU. Y mientras los estudiantes se escondían tras puertas cerradas, a solo unas cuadras de distancia, los legisladores de Florida debatían un proyecto de ley para reducir la edad legal para comprar armas de fuego.

Esta es la crisis que estamos viviendo: una donde se prohíben libros antes que se implementen verificaciones de antecedentes. Donde se silencian a los educadores—pero no a las armas de asalto. Donde la política prefiere complacer antes que proteger.
