On January 30, 2025, there will be a meeting of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners to hear a request from Gateway Baptist Church in order to expand True North Gateway Campus to a 1,500-student campus. It currently only allows 300.
The location of this Charter school is directly between Snapper Creek Elementary School and Glades Middle School, both of which are currently operating at less than half their capacity. True North's campus expansion will not only make traffic to the surrounding neighborhoods unmanageable but will attempt to siphon students from the existing public schools within a 2-block radius of True North, which will put both schools in jeopardy of possible closure.
Snapper Creek Elementary is a Title 1, A-rated school with an excellent ESE program, which True North does not provide.
Within the next week or two, we will begin a letter-writing campaign to stop this expansion. We will need all hands on deck for this campaign and people to appear at the Board of Commissioners meeting.
